Drink Disc

Yes, the Drink Disc is real. It was on Dragon’s Den on March 19th, a show about inventions and innovations and investing in the same. For the uninitiated, Drink Disc is a ‘flying disc’, or Frisbee–like toy that doubles as a tray for beers or mixed drinks. It’s not unlike a tray you might get at Tim Hortons for a collection of Double-Double’s.

Now, if you’re vacationing at an all-inclusive and feel the need to fill up your disc with a half-dozen sudsy or fruity beverages, down the lot and then ‘toss some disc’ in the surf, let me speculate that you might also toss your cookies.  I don’t know – a half dozen seems like a lot.

Certainly, the idea that I need a permanent tray to carry my alcohol around, at the beach or elsewhere, even if it doubles as a Frisbee, is a bit much. In fact, we have Guidelines to help reduce your health risks from drinking, and six drinks are more than we’d recommend for any single occasion – let alone one trip to the bar.

Perhaps you’re sharing all these drinks? – okay, fine. But getting six at a time tells me that things might very easily get out of control.

  1. Hey Doug,

Thanks for your thoughts, I agree that sometimes 6 drinks is indeed too much. The product was designed as a social one to, like you suggested, share drinks with your pals. So instead of carrying a Bubba Keg around with 6 cups of beer in it for yourself, you can have 1-2 cups and have 4 other drinks, even if they are different drinks, for other people. Be it water, fruit juices or yes, even Mojitos.
