A friend of ours was telling us about a bad experience that he had with his teenager- and I am using the term ‘bad’ rather loosely, you can decide for yourself.
He had gone out of town for the weekend and left their 17 year old son at home…alone, well obviously not alone all of time because when John and his wife arrived home they found over $20,000 damage had been done to their home during a party that they had ‘hosted’ the night before. A party that over 100 friends, school mates, and anyone on Facebook was happy to attend. The alcohol was flowing. The result was many intoxicated underage drinkers and unimaginable destruction in their home. How could this have happened?
Remember that as a parent you are liable for any alcohol your teen and their friends drink in your home and on your property. Think bush parties too. Liable can have huge financial costs as our friend found out when his insurance company denied his claim but the costs can be more than just money if anyone gets hurt or worse.
So, think about it….just a ‘bad’ experience?
We are glad you enjoy our blog. There is opportunity for volunteer guest bloggers, we are looking for a local Simcoe Muskoka perspective. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts of the culture of alcohol in society.
